Welcome to CoderDojo Guerneville!

We are very excited to start coding together! The Dojo’s first meeting is February 5th. Registration is open now!

Finding Us

We meet at the Guerneville Regional Library, 14107 Armstrong Woods Road, Guerneville, CA, from 3:30-5:00 pm every Tuesday. Dojo sessions are always free to attend, but you will need to register to claim a spot.

Before You Arrive

The event starts at 3:30PM. We recommend arriving 5 to 10 minutes early to give yourself time to locate the Dojo, register, and get set up on wifi.  Please plan to bring a laptop if you have one.  If you are planning to bring another device, such as an EV3 or Kano, please let us know before you arrive. Note: the library requests we avoid bringing food and drink.  Please plan to finish your snack outside before Dojo time.

Registration and Finding Your Seat

All attendees will need to add their name and emergency contact info to our attendance sheet, which is normally available 10 minutes before the club is scheduled to start. Parents/guardians of children under the age of 8 will be required to stay for the duration of the club. Parents of those 8 and over are welcome to attend.

If you have a laptop, please bring it.  Through the generosity of the Guerneville Regional Library, we often have access to a computer cart with 22 laptops, but since we have 18-25 Ninjas in our Dojo, personal laptops (and sharing) are encouraged.

One of the first things you will want to do is get connected to the internet. Use the Library wifi or look for the network called ‘Sonoma County Library’ (no password). If you have any trouble getting connected, let one of the mentors or librarians know and we’ll help you get going.

There will usually be a short presentation covering a few key ideas in a new language, programming library, or tool we are learning together. We will be learning some basics to get you started creating your own games, apps and websites with tools like Scratch, Javascript and Python.

Ninja Presentations

At some point before everything wraps up at 5:00PM, we want to give a few young people the opportunity to present their own coding projects to the group. If you have something you’d like to share, let one of our mentors know and we will try to fit you in.

Do you have technical skills or enjoy mentoring kids? Become a CoderDojo volunteer! We are looking for community members to help us inspire, teach, and guide our Ninjas. Talk to a mentor or librarian for more information.
